Racky Thomas (1883 Lounge) No Cover

The Racky Thomas Band has been a torchbearer for the blues since its formation in 1995, when Racky Thomas collaborated with bassist Todd Carson, guitarist Nick Adams, and drummer Ted Larkin to make a demo cd, and do some gigs around the Boston area. Thomas spent ’96 and early ’97 abroad before returning to Boston, with the intent of putting the band back together and taking another stab at cracking the blues scene.

After an invitation to enter Boston’s 1997 Battle of The Blues Bands, and the addition of pianist Ron Poster, the band went on to win, and traveled to Memphis to compete on a national level. Failing to make the finals in Memphis, the band traveled home; humbled, yet with a stronger resolve.

Following the departures of Larkin and Poster; the band– in various formations –has forged ahead; releasing four critically acclaimed, independently produced cd’s, including their most recent effort, ‘Hard Travelin’, and making numerous club and festival appearances; opening for such luminaries as Luther ‘Guitar’ Jr. Johnson, Ronnie Earl, and Sue Tedeschi; highlighted by a trip to France in 2010, to perform at the Terri Thouars festival. Moving forward, Thomas plans to release a solo acoustic CD featuring his Delta and country blues influences, as well as make another trip to the studio (or club!) for a live recording. Stay tuned…

Dave Richardson Band (No Cover) 1883 Lounge

4 years ago, veteran blues guitar slinger, Dave Richardson, was playing a gig in a dive bar in Pawtucket, RI.  What he didn’t know was that this would be no typical gig and no ordinary night.  A guest vocalist walked graciously on to the stage and said, “Hi.  I’m Jan Schmidt. We’re gonna do a shuffle in A.  Watch me for the stops.”

What began in that very moment was an alignment of voice, guitar, emotion and energy that formed the current foundation of the Dave Richardson Band.

A powerhouse rhythm section joined the cause consisting of Willie Moss, Jr. on 7 string bass and Zeffro Gianetti on drums.

This musical combination quickly became competent grooving on New Orleans Funk, Texas Blues, Classic Soul and driving Rock & Roll.   Each show it’s own unique journey and story never to be replicated or retold again.

Plastic Angels (No Cover) 1883 Lounge

Somewhere between Pat Benatar and 90’s grunge/rock is where you will find Plastic Angels. Known for their power-house vocals, moody rock riffs, and provocative lyrics, Jeff Lawson & Bethany Pierce began writing together on Cape Cod, MA in 2013 under the moniker ‘Angry Ginger’. After nominations for local Limelight Music Awards such as “New Artist of the Year”, “Female Vocalist of the Year”, and “Live Act of the Year”, the pair never looked back.

Following a name change to ‘Plastic Angels’ they released an EP sarcastically titled, “Kings of the World” in 2016 in collaboration with Grammy-Nominated producer Joel Hamilton. They began promotional touring in New York, Massachusetts, and California. Their thought-provoking, sophomore release ‘Wake’ produced by Grammy-nominated Jon Evans in 2018 gained national and international attention with a showcase performance at the 2019 NAMM show and radio airplay throughout the US, Canada, and the UK. Newly signed to RL Recordings (Universal Music Group), Plastic Angels is slowly proving that they are a musical force to be reckoned with.

T. N.G. (No Cover) 1883 Lounge
T.N.G (The Next Generation) is a great mix of fine musicians who’s mutual appreciation for all things “blues”. Their music is impassioned with infectious grooves, while paying tribute and respect to the greats in the music that they truly love. They always play from the heart and soul, whether creating their own powerful originals or giving a new twist to an old cover. The quality & attention to detail in terms of tone & feeling from their vocals & instruments is uncanny, & unexpected from such a young bunch of musicians. The T.N.G delivers a soulful, high energy show that grabs the audience’s attention and leaves them roaring for more!
2016 Winners of the Massachusetts Blues Society and represented Massachusetts at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN.
TNG has toured New England and has played over 250 shows. They have shared the Stage with many artists like Toni Lynn Washington, Sax Gordon, Ricky King Russell and many more….

Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish (No Cover) 1883 Lounge
Dec 6 @ 9:00 pm

Formed in 1991, the band has evolved through many incarnations, three Tone Cool and two self-produced CDs, trips around the world as far as South Africa and mostly the joys of playing a lot of music on Martha’s Vineyard where most of them live. The band started out as a four-piece with no piano, became a five-piece for several years, and then returned to a four-piece configuration, this time with no bass, and it’s been that way for over 10 years.

johnny hoy

johnny hoy juggles a full life where he takes advantage of his many skills including stone masonry, fishing, antique dealing, farming. Somehow he manages to do all the gigs as well. He came to the Island in 1978, after soaking up Muddy Waters’ and Tom Waits’ shows as a teenager.

jeremyberlin

jeremy berlin, the piano player, has been with the band for most of its life — since the summer of ’93. He’s played duets with President Clinton, and Carly Simon — he’s not afraid of anything, and he plays it all. Jeremy’s connection with the Island started before he was born and he’s been there on and off
ever since.

delaniepickering-kevinmedeiros

delanie pickering, guitarist, showed up on the Island in 2017 from New Hampshire. She didn’t tell anyone she played music, and quietly checked out the scene until she was ready. Then it was all over: everyone wanted her, and The Bluefish have her! Audiences love her, and her energy has given a new life to the band. And she sings!

kevin medeiros, Rounding out the band is drummer
Kevin Medeiros from New Bedford. He listened to the Bluefish for years before it was his turn, and his solid beat gets better and better. He grew up in New Bedford and he and Delanie give the band new blood!
